I bought a new 19 inch LCD monitor. I also purchased a windows XP home edition in Japanese (with SP2).
I *SO* want a macmini. So adorable. It is perfect for organizing my things, using it soley as a server. If only. Maybe one day, when I am more settled, when I buy that $3000 cinema monitor from apple to connect to my powerbook, I will buy a little mac mini to accompany it. I can only dream and swim around in my little puddle of drool. (great attractive imagery)
Yesterday I wandered around compusa. We were looking for the cheap DVD+-RWs. Couldn't find any. Will and I drooled over the $3000 dollar 30 inch cinema monitor screen, while J rolled her eyes. I lectured J on the virtues of an imac G5 and she was *sighing* over the sadness of my geekdom, or something. I convinced her to get her brother (that brat better thank me afterwards) an iPod mini. We might get it in pink for him. HAHAHAHAHA. Will said that he is getting the new iPod shuffle for Jaci.
Raven's comment about the ipod spurred this entry. WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT NEW IPOD SHUFFLE?!?!?!?! It is truly the size of gum. However, the only reason they call it an ipod shuffle is because *they weren't able to fit a screen on it.* "So hey! Let's make it like that was intended!!!" I'm sure if they did put on a screen, they wouldn't have been able to make it so small (with the lcd, the backlight, etc... it would be a thick little thing) HAHA. The virtues of that are, the iPod shuffle doesn't work from a hard drive like the regular ipod and ipod mini. You can take it jogging, jostle it, beat it up, and no abuse team will come after you. AND if you're doing some extreme activity, you would probably not be changing songs/shuffling through thousands of songs. Apparently, the thing is flying off the shelves.
So, while at compusa, this security guy hit on me. It was actually very sweet. While we came out of the store, he beeped the machine. I went up to the counter and he winked, told me I am attractive, and slid me a little note. A NOTE! It's one thing to tell someone she's attractive and to ask for their number. It is another think to write 20 words + number on a little slip of paper... It was sweet. "Dude, he had that paper ready. Was he waiting for us to get out of the store?" Maybe he just has a stack in his pockets? Dude was prepared. I giggled that he ended the message with "God Bless You." As if he said, "I want to fuck you side ways.... god bless you." Ok, it wasn't like that at all. Still...
J likes to go with me to compusa. I walk with her, talk with her, tell her about the virtues of the imac or cinema screen without getting too verbose and drenched in technicalities. I tell her stories, allow her to imagine herself working on the sleek beautiful machine, and I work with her feminine intuitions about technology. On the other hand, Will gets all starry eyed and frolics off, leaving his girlfriend and my best friend in the dust. Men. ::sigh:: It works out for me because they compromise. She goes with him to the computer store and he tolerates her shopping in victoria's secret. You would think they would both get more excited about both. It works for me because I can turn from techno geek to girly in 2.5 seconds. Perhaps there will be some delay when there is a 30 inch cinema screen on display.
I bought more bras yesterday. It is ridiculous. I have too many. I went from having too little / too old, to too much. Woe.
I am bidding on ebay auctions to win myself japanese software. I am turning my workstation into a little homey desktop for my mother. I'll probably/hopefully be moving soon. I will be taking my laptop + external hard drive (which I need to buy) with me. I will not lug my heavy as crap workstation tower. UHG. So, we got a new monitor, got a new OS, some other software, and I am going to reformat the thing next week, after applications. Then, I have from Feb to the summer to teach her how to use it.
A mac would be a better option for her, though. If we had a mac, I wouldn't need a separate japanese OS... since OS X includes most languages. Another reason why macs are superior.
I went to the library and took out Kushiel's Dart (requisite Sci Fi book recommended by J), Geek Love, and Nausea (existential angst!). I am in love with Geek Love. It is so endearing. I will write an entry about it as soon as I finish it later today.
My mother is depressed. It breaks my heart. I also know that I have to be cold enough to walk out that door despite her pleadings if I ever want to be independent. There is some comfort in knowing that she did the same to her mother when she eloped with my father to the US. Eh.
